2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC Wins IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Award
Only twelve cars and three SUVs achieved the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) highest honor this year! Out of the selected three SUVs picked for the IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ Award, the 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC SUV was chosen as a winner.
To become an IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+, all vehicles must offer industry-leading front, side, rear, and rollover crash protection. They must also feature proactive crash prevention and advanced headlight technology.
The TOP SAFETY PICK+ accolade was introduced in the 2013 model year to recognize vehicles that offer a superior level of safety. Over the years, IIHS has added to and strengthened criteria for both awards, pushing automakers to speed up safety advances. Because Mercedes-Benz strives to always be ahead of the curve, it comes to no surprise why the GLC was named a winner.
The 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC comes standard with 7air bags with 9-way occupant protection. Dual two-stage front airbags, combines thorax/pelvis bags for driver and front passenger, a driver’s knew air bag, and side curtain air bags for both seating rows.
Other standard safety features found in the 2018 GLC SUV include:
- COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS
- ATTENTION ASSIST®
- Crosswind Assist
- Rearview Camera
- Antilock Braking System (ABS)
- Brake Assist (BAS®)
- Electronic Stability Program (ESP)
The GLC is offered with three engines ranging from 241 to 362 hp; each offering 9G-TRONIC® 9-speed automatic transmission with shift paddles for a broader range of gear ratios, enhanced fuel-efficiency, and quiet operation.
