2017 Mercedes-Benz B 250 e vs. 2017 BMW i3

2017 Mercedes-Benz B 250 evs. 2017 BMW i3

Efficient performance, comfort, and interior utility are major deciding factors for drivers shopping for an electric vehicle. Judging by what you’d expect from a premium EV, do you think the 2017 BMW i3 is worth its base price tag of $42,400? Despite offering considerable power and features, the BMW i3 meets its match in the 2017 Mercedes-Benz B 250 e – a compact hatchback offering competitive power and features for a significantly lower starting MSRP of $39,900. Take a look below to see what sets the 2017 Mercedes-Benz B-Class B 250 e apart from the 2017 BMW i3!

All-Electric Performance

The 2017 BMW i3 is driven by a 170-hp motor and a lithium-ion battery pack combo that produces a total of 184 lb-ft of torque. Front-wheel drive, brake assistance, and 4-wheel independent suspension work in unison to create a relaxed, easy-going driving experience. Engineered in collaboration with TESLA Motors, the electric powertrain inside the 2017 Mercedes-Benz B 250 e harnesses up to 177 hp and 251 lb-ft of torque. The power increase makes the B 250 e a dream to control on Waipahu roads, while the standard Range Plus Package adds an additional 17 miles to the already outstanding 87-mile all-electric range.

Passenger Capacity and Space

Interiorly, the BMW i3 and Mercedes-Benz B 250 e both create an inviting atmosphere for you and your passengers. Regardless of the vehicle you select, the base models’ cockpits and cabins feature a leather-wrapped steering wheel, emergency telematics, a central display screen, split-folding rear seats, and more. An attribute that isn’t shared by both hatchbacks, however, is ample space. The BMW i3 offers room enough for four passengers, while the cargo area expands to 36.9 cubic feet. The Mercedes-Benz B 250 e, on the other hand, comfortably seats five people, just like a regular sedan or SUV, and offers a maximum cargo capacity of 51.4 cubic feet – easily surpassing many SUVs currently on the market.

Advanced Safety Systems

As a compact EV, the 2017 BMW i3 leaves no stone unturned in the ways of safety. All the basics are included as standard, such as multiple airbags, adaptive braking technology, 4-wheel anti-lock brakes, and stability and traction control. The Technology + Driving Assistant Package integrates several optional technologies, including a frontal collision warning system with autonomous braking. Unlike the BMW i3, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz B-Class B 250 e doesn’t require an upgrade for Honolulu drivers to enjoy the following features:

  • Active Brake Assist: This system senses impending frontal collisions, based on your distance from the vehicle ahead, and can either assist you with emergency braking or automatically apply the brakes at maximum power.
  • ATTENTION ASSIST®: Capable of monitoring up to 70 parameters of driving behavior, ATTENTION ASSIST® senses when you’re becoming drowsy and emits a visual and audible warning.
