Mercedes-Benz Logo Explained: What’s the Meaning Behind the 3-Pointed Star?
The Mercedes-Benz logo design is quickly recognized by car lovers in Waipahu and around the world as a symbol of power and luxury. But what is the meaning behind this famous logo? Today, Mercedes-Benz of Honolulu explores the history of the Mercedes-Benz logo on new and used cars and the logo’s meaning.
Karl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler founded Mercedes-Benz almost a century ago. These two automotive pioneers possessed a shared interest in both mechanics and engineering. Prior to the creation of Mercedes-Benz, Karl Benz built his first motorized tricycle in 1886, while Gottlieb Daimler created a horseless carriage a few years later.
Soon after these creations, Karl Benz established Benz & Cie., and Gottlieb Daimler established DMG. The first “Mercedes” car was developed in 1900 by DMG. However, once the war broke out in Germany, it made it basically impossible for drivers to afford fuel. So, fast-forward to 1926, and DMG and Benz & Cie. merged into Daimler-Benz.
This proved to be a lucrative merger, and around 7,000 Mercedes-Benz cars were produced in 1927. Three years later, the Mercedes-Benz W15 emerged on the market and quickly became one of the most sought-after cars. Its success was a strong supporting factor in the creation of the Daimler-Benz AG division.
Three-Pointed Star Logo Meaning
Through the evolution of Mercedes-Benz, the Mercedes-Benz logo also underwent many changes. The original Mercedes-Benz logo design was first conceived by the sons of Gottlieb Daimler—Paul and Adolf Daimler. Their inspiration came from a similar symbol their father used to mark their family postcards. With the logo meaning rooted in family, the first iteration of the Mercedes-Benz brand’s symbol started out as a gold star. Over time, the logo was altered and eventually became a white star at the center of a thick circular border with detailing around the edges.
Today, the Mercedes-Benz logo has morphed into a silver circle with a three-pointed star in the center. The logo meaning now has come to represent the strength and prevalence of Daimler engines on the land, sea, and in the air. On modern Mercedes-Benz vehicles found in Ewa Beach, the Three-Pointed Star is displayed as either a stamp embedded in the grille or stand-up hood ornament.
